Antoine Griezmann & Man United
Man United fans spent the early part of the summer consuming a shedload of articles claiming Antoine Griezmann was on his way to Old Trafford.
It’s been a rollercoaster of reports in recent months over Griezmann’s future.
After the player gave his move to Man United a 60% chance of happening, Griezmann recently agreed a new deal to stay at Atletico Madrid until 2022.
The Griezmann contract renewal comes after the Court of Arbitration for Sport confirmed that a transfer ban imposed on the Rojiblancos will hold until January 2018.
Talks to FourFourTwo
Leading British football magazine FourFourTwo have today published a new interview with Griezmann in which they’ve explored why his move to Old Trafford never happened this summer, and whether the deal will come to fruition in twelve months time.
The first topic of conversation centred on whether Griezmann personally called Jose Mourinho this summer to inform the Special One he was staying at Atletico. Contrary to claims that said that phone call happened, the French international forward said:
No, no, no. No, that’s totally made up. False. It was my decision. I communicated it to the club. That’s it.
Griezmann explained that he’s staying at Atleti because of the transfer embargo.
But does that mean he’ll leave Madrid next summer? The 26-year-old refused to commit:
To be honest, I don’t know. I’m going to be playing for Atletico next season and after that we’ll see. All I am thinking about now is Atletico Madrid. I think it’s absurd to talk about something that is more than a year away.
