Antoine Griezmann was very heavily linked with a move to Spanish giants Barcelona over the course of the 2018 summer transfer window.
Despite the interest from Barca though, Griezmann would remain an Atletico Madrid player for the time being.
‘They did everything possible to make me feel good’
Now, while on international duty with France, Griezmann has opened up about why he did not move to Barcelona.
Speaking about his Barcelona links to L’Equipe, Griezmann stated,
“When you’re shown love at home, you don’t go elsewhere”, he said, before talking about the effort Atletico made to ensure he stayed.
“They did everything possible to make me feel good, including bringing in important players and building a great team.
“It’s difficult to say no to teams like Barça.
“I feel like the base… or the most important piece of the puzzle, that is what made me stay.”
Griezmann’s time at Atletico Madrid
Griezmann joined Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2014 from Real Sociedad for a fee in the region of £27 million.
Since joining Atletico Madrid Griezmann has become somewhat of a club legend.

Griezmann has also won several major trophies since joining Atletico Madrid.
The 27-year-old won the Spanish Super Cup in 2014 with Atletico, the Europa League this past season and the UEFA Super Cup for 2018, seeing off cross town rivals Real Madrid in the process.
Griezmann has also won the 2018 World Cup with France.
During said tournament, Griezmann would be France’s top scorer with four goals and two assists.
