Andy Robertson failed with an old-school attempt to put Mason Greenwood off for Man United equaliser vs Liverpool

Thriller in Manchester

The marquee fixture of the FA Cup’s 4th-round is of course currently being played out between English football’s two most historic clubs at Old Trafford.

The clash marks the 2nd between the sides in the space of the last week, after a Premier League showdown last weekend eventually played out into a drab 0-0 stalemate.

The exchanges to this point in Manchester, though, have proven considerably more fruitful, with Man United currently leading Liverpool by two goals to one.

The evening’s scoring was opened inside the 20-minute mark, when Roberto Firmino’s defence-splitting pass was expertly dinked beyond the onrushing Dean Henderson by Mohamed Salah:

The visitors’ advantage, however, lasted just 8 minutes, before a moment of magic on the part of Marcus Rashford saw the English international set Mason Greenwood free down the right.

And the latter made no mistake with his subsequent finish, picking out the far bottom corner of Alisson’s goal with a pinpoint strike:

Then, early in the 2nd-half, the Red Devils’ two young attackers switched roles, as Greenwood played Rashford in (with a little help from Rhys Williams) to turn the clash on its head.

Robbo goes old-school

As outlined above, though, whilst it is of course Rashford’s composed finish which currently separates the sides at Old Trafford, it was actually Greenwood’s effort, or more so the moments leading up to it, which have since taken centre stage online.

This comes with Andy Robertson, aware that he had little chance of actually getting a challenge in on United’s surging wide-man, having opted to make use of another, seldom-seen tactic in an attempt to put Greenwood off.

As showcased below, the Scot simply screamed in the direction of the Red Devils teen, albeit, evidently, to no avail…
