New Everton signing Andre Gomes is looking forward to playing under compatriot Marco Silva following his season-long loan move.
The Portuguese midfielder’s Barcelona career has not quite panned out as he hoped following his move from Valencia back in 2016.
It was expected he would make a big impact at the Camp Nou but that hasn’t worked out for whatever reason and he looked for a potential move away from the club.
West Ham were a club that was linked with a move for him this summer.
However, it was Everton who sealed a deal for the player today as the midfielder joined Yerry Mina in joining the Toffees.
The Silva effect
One big reason a deal with Everton got done is said to be down to Marco Silva.
Gomes knows his compatriot from his time in Portugal and cited a conversation with Silva as a reason for his move.
“I’m delighted to sign for this fantastic club – it’s a good day for me,” Gomes explained to the official Everton website.
“Everton always was a big option for me, especially after speaking with the coach, Marco Silva.
“Every discussion we’ve had was very important in making me feel his confidence about my game.
“Everybody in Portugal knows how Marco Silva works and his abilities as a coach.
“For me, it was really good to speak to him because I know how good he is and I feel motivated to work with him and to play for Everton, a great club.”
