Manchester United fans love Ander Herrera. The industrious midfielder is one of the unsung heroes of their strongest starting line-up. However, he’s had better seasons in front of goal.
His debut campaign with United saw him bag eight goals.
He failed to better or match that tally in his second season, scoring eight.
This season he’s only scored once.
That goal came in the League Cup, too. Herrera’s Premier League goal drought isn’t for a lack of trying. EA Sports data shows that only Jason Puncheon has had more shots at goal (31) without scoring in the top flight this season.
This statistic typifies United’s biggest problem this season: Their poor finishing. The Red Devils would probably be in a higher league position if a few of Herrera’s 30 shots found the back of the net. We back him to find it soon enough.
See the full list below to see who else needs to increase shooting practice.
Jason Puncheon (Crystal Palace) 1924 minutes and 31 shots without a goal
Ander Herrera (Manchester United) 1817 minutes and 30 shots without a goal
Pierre-Emile Højbjerg (Southampton) 1042 minutes and 26 shots without a goal
Jack Wilshere (Bournemouth) 1570 minutes and 25 shots without a goal
Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal) 552 minutes and 23 shots without a goal
