Ander Herrera ‘spat at Man City’s crest’
In the aftermath of Man United’s 3-2 win at City on Saturday night, Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera has got in trouble.
Footage recorded at halftime of the Manchester derby revealed how Herrera spat on the Man City crest as he walked off the pitch.
Man City were 2-up at the break after Vincent Kompany and Ilkay Gundogan scored.
As Herrera left the pitch, the Spanish midfielder was spotted spitting at the Man City crest just outside the players’ tunnel.
Ander Herrera reacts badly
On Monday morning Man United have reacted to the Herrera spit-storm.
The Sun have published a statement from Man United on behalf of Herrera. That read:
Ander has seen the footage of the incident and is mortified at any suggestion that his actions were deliberate.
It was entirely accidental and there was no intent whatsoever.
What’s clear from the United statement is that Herrera isn’t contesting whether he spat or not. It’s the intention which he has a problem with.
As for Man City, the Times have an update on how the Sky Blues viewed the incident:
City officials privately expressed their condemnation of Ander Herrera after TV footage emerged of the United player spitting on the giant City badge near the tunnel as he left the pitch at half-time.“It is disrespectful and immature to do that,” a City source said.
At this stage it seems unlikely that the FA will step in to punish Herrera.
Herrera after Man City
After the Man City game, Herrera, who set up Pogba’s opener, gave a heartfelt interview to MUTV.
In it Herrera noted that United are simply worried about trying to perform for their fans.
