Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera is close to David De Gea on and off the field, and it seems that the player knows the value of keeping him at the club.
Jose Mourinho confirmed that De Gea would not be leaving this summer, and it seems that Herrera agrees with the sentiment.
The Daily Mail report he said: “You don’t want to lose the top three in any position, like David is, like [Paul] Pogba is, like [Romelu] Lukaku is, like Marcus [Rashford] can be. We want to keep them. He is a goalkeeper who can give you points. That is very important.
“I want to keep him here, to play with him, because he’s a fantastic keeper and also my friend.”
Mourinho confirmed De Gea would not be sold, and that if nothing else is a huge statement on how United are planning for the future and the upcoming season.
To lose someone so good would certainly be a massive blow to the club, and after seeing Real Madrid mess them about over a move for Alvaro Morata to boot, it makes sense that United would also try and keep their players away from the La Liga side.
Herrera meanwhile has gone from a player who struggled in Louis van Gaal’s eyes, to being someone Jose Mourinho sees as one of the main names on the teamsheet.
