Amanda Staveley

Why was Amanda Staveley at Newcastle v Liverpool?

Newcastle v Liverpool

The final match in round seven of the Premier League was staged at St James’ Park.

Newcastle welcomed Liverpool in a match that natural stirred up memories of the famous 4-3s from the 1990s.

Sunday’s match has the added spice of Rafa Benitez facing his old club on home turf.

Benitez famously won the Champions League with Liverpool and will surely be awarded a fine reception from the travelling Kop.

The Spaniard’s big advantage going into this game is that Newcastle have had a full week to prepare.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have travelled to and from Moscow and the form of Jurgen Klopp’s side remains patchy.

Amanda Staveley at St James’ Park

There was one noticeable attendee at the Newcastle v Liverpool game: Amanda Staveley.

Amanda Staveley runs the $28 billion private equity fund PCP Capital Partners.

Staveley is also well-known in the world of football.

Back in 2007 she helped a group of  Dubai investors try to buy Liverpool. That deal ultimately fell by the wayside.

But in 2008 she was heavily involved as Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al-Nahyan bought Manchester City for £210 million.

Staveley has recently been linked with a possible takeover of Tottenham.

But should be turning her attention to Newcastle instead?

Possible Newcastle takeover?

It’s hard to believe that FSG have any intention of selling Liverpool anytime soon.

But Mike Ashley has constantly been talked up as ready to sell Newcastle if he gets the right price.

Amanda Staveley clearly has the funds to take over the Magpies, but does she have the will?

Reports from  the local media Newcastle is that there has been no hint that Amanda Staveley is looking to buy Newcastle.
