Reds switch

The major talking point at Old Trafford last week of course surrounded the arrival of starlet Diallo.

The 18-year-old was at the heart of one of a number of deadline day deals struck by United this past October, when he joined Edinson Cavani, Alex Telles and Facundo Pellistri in putting pen to paper on terms with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men.

Diallo, though, unlike the aforementioned trio, did not actually make the move to Manchester at the time.

With the Reds having been waiting for international clearance and the processing of a new passport for their latest big-money addition, it was decided that he would remain in Italy for the opening half of the campaign.

In turn, after the final details of the deal were thrashed out this day last week, United announced that their swoop for Diallo had indeed been finalised, with the youngster set to link up with his new teammates imminently:

‘My dream…’

And, as outlined above, on the back of his arrival finally being made official, Diallo himself today opened up on a number of noteworthy topics, when it comes to his new employers.

During his first official interview as a United star, the Ivorian was first drawn on whether he has yet been in touch with any of his Reds teammates.

And Diallo went on to confirm as much, revealing that he has been chatting on and off with fellow countryman Eric Bailly for several months now, with the stopper, along with Paul Pogba, set to act as ‘reference points’:

‘Eric will be a definite reference point for me. I’ve actually already been in touch with him over the last few months and we’ve been chatting.’

‘I’ll be asking him for advice and will be listening to all he says, and also the other players who speak French and Italian like [Paul] Pogba for example, he will be another good reference point for me.’

Next up was an insight into Diallo’s hopes for his Old Trafford stint.

And the gifted young attacker certainly appears to view the sky as the limit, with Diallo having confirmed that he has set his sights on securing both domestic and European glory with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men over the years ahead:

‘I’m a little bit too anxious to say this given it’s just the start [of my time here] but my dream is to win the Premier League and the Champions League with Manchester United.’

‘That is my aim and goal.’
