The Alvaro Morata / Romelu Lukaku transfer saga certainly had fans gripped this summer, and it seems the player himself had serious doubts over where he should move to.
Much has been made of the fact Antonio Conte took him to Juventus, and then of course left the club, and now it seems that Conte once again played a huge part in Morata’s future, making him feel a move to Chelsea was something he needed to do.
The player was speaking about why he moved and why he left Real Madrid, and it seems Chelsea fans owe a lot to Conte on this score.
He was speaking to Marca: “I knew Conte loved me, and I had talked to him many times.
“In a way, I felt indebted to him because I signed for Juve and had to go.
“Actually, at first, I did not know that I was so interested in signing myself, but when I found out, I did not hesitate and it was my preference.”
Chelsea may have landed Morata, but there is of course one massive issue for the team.
They do not have a big squad – and it’s something Antonio Conte has spoken about time and time again.
The manager has voiced his displeasure about the lack of signings, and made it clear to the board he thinks more needs to be done – and now it seems Danny Rose is being strongly linked with the club.
That being said, Chelsea are set to go into the season without Eden Hazard, who is of course one of their most vital players – not to mention the fact Conte seems seriously unhappy with the sale of Nemanja Matic to Manchester United to boot.
Chelsea fans have seen one disastrous title defence in recent years- and will hope Morata can prevent another.
