Alvaro Morata has claimed he loves living as close to Chelsea as he does – and that he will walk home with a hat on come the end of a match if the roads are all closed.
The forward, who arrived in Chelsea’s marquee deal of the summer from Real Madrid spoke about life in England and also his time in Spain, and showed how well he is settling in, and how down to earth he clearly is.
Something that may well make fans smile – though possibly not manager Antonio Conte – is the fact Morata claimed at the end of a win, once he gets home, he will treat himself to a beer as a reward.
He spoke with Spanish radio station Cadena SER, saying: “I live in Chelsea five minutes away from the stadium and sometimes at the end of the match, if the roads are closed, I take my training gear off and walk home.
“If we win I give myself the reward of having a beer.
“I change my clothes, I take off Chelsea’s because if it’s not impossible, I put on a hat and go home.
”What can I say about Real Madrid? I won everything at that club, certainly I would like to play in another Champions League final against Real Madrid, and win it.
“The other day someone told me your agent must be Harry Potter since you aren’t worth 20 million so I asked him how much he was worth, there will always be people ready to criticise.”
Some people may not think Morata is worth the money Chelsea paid for him, but he is their key man this season, and in terms of his goals, he is repaying the transfer fee in full.
The winner against Manchester United made Chelsea’s ‘crisis’ look a lot better, and the one thing many people agree on this season is Chelsea have to keep Morata fit if they want a shot at retaining their title and stopping Manchester City this season.
