Allan Saint-Maximin continues Liverpool love-in after Anfield draw: ‘Still my best mate Fabinho’

Allan Saint-Maximin continues Liverpool love-in after Anfield draw: ‘Still my best mate Fabinho’

Newcastle United star Allan Saint-Maximin has again piqued the attentions of Liverpool’s supporters on Sunday, after sending a lighthearted message to Fabinho on social media.

Willock at the death

Saint-Maximin and co. were of course back in action a little over 24 hours ago.

The Magpies made the trip to Anfield, for a Premier League meeting with champions Liverpool.

Newcastle headed into proceedings aiming to carry forth a fine recent spell of form, which had seen them climb a full 8 points clear of the relegation zone.

And, when all was said and done on Merseyside, this is precisely what Steve Bruce’s men managed.

Despite Liverpool’s dominance in terms of both possession and chances created, Newcastle struck with essentially the last kick of the game, to secure a hard-earned share of the spoils.

After the ball was nodded down into the heart of the Liverpool penalty area, super-sub Joe Willock lashed home a deflected effort, bagging his 3rd in three games, and cancelling out Mohamed Salah’s early opener:

‘Wished you had a red card!’

In the hours following Saturday’s clash, however, it was not Willock’s name which took centre stage in the post-match chatter.

Instead, it was that of Allan Saint-Maximin.

This came with the Frenchman having nobly jumped to the defence of under-fire Liverpool counterpart Sadio Mane, after one of the Reds’ frustrated supporters suggested that Saint-Maximin and the Senegalese should swap clubs in the summer:

And, as outlined above, 24 hours later, ASM’s Liverpool love-in has continued.

The Newcastle star on this occasion reacted to a clip of Fabinho cynically taking him out late on at Anfield, as Saint-Maximin prepared to surge into the hosts’ half:

In an ensuing Tweet, though, the wide-man assured that it remains all love between the pair, with Fabinho still his ‘best mate’.

For context, the Liverpool midfielder played alongside Saint-Maximin early in their respective careers, at Monaco.
