Alisson targeted as Liverpool fall 2-0 behind at Red Star

Viewers of the clash between Red Star Belgrade and Liverpool have taken to Twitter this evening to take aim at Reds’ goalkeeper Alisson.

Red Star vs Liverpool

The two sides are currently locked in action in Belgrade, with the hosts having come into proceedings having picked up just a solitary point from their opening 3 Group C fixtures.

Liverpool, meanwhile, sat top of the Group (which also contains Napoli and PSG) with 6 points.

The Reds made short work of their hosts for the evening on the opening day of the group, when Jurgen Klopp’s men put 4 past the Serbs with no reply.

However, the Premier League giants were no doubt well aware that a trip to Belgrade pose an entirely different challenge, with the Red Star Stadium known for creating an electric and often downright intimidating atmosphere:

And the occasion certainly got the better of Liverpool’s stars over the course of the opening 45 minutes this evening.

Incredibly, the Reds have headed into the break 2-goals down, courtesy of a double from Milan Pavkov.

The hosts’ first, in the 22nd-minute, saw Pavkov rise highest from a corner to find the corner of the visitors’ goal with a bullet header.

Red Star’s second, meanwhile, came after James Milner needlessly gave the ball away in the middle of the park, allowing Pavkov to eventually find the top corner from 25 yards with a superb strike.

Alisson abuse

However, while the impressive nature of Pavkov’s hit could not have been called into question, the attempt made by Alisson to save the strike left a lot to be desired.

The Brazilian rather-bizarrely used his left hand, rather than his right, in his attempts to keep Pavkov’s effort out, with viewers of the clash this evening having since taken to Twitter in their droves to take aim at the Liverpool shot-stopper as a result:
