Alisson & Naby Keita’s Liverpool injury updates, Newcastle’s 8 selection problems

Liverpool vs Newcastle

Anfield will be packed on Saturday as Liverpool host Newcastle United.

Will this be another classic goal-fest?

Perhaps, but most will assume that Liverpool will cruise to victory over the Magpies.

Alisson & Naby Keita injury updates

Prior to the Newcastle match, the Liverpool Echo have assessed the current walking wounded at Anfield.

The biggest concern is Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson, who has been missing since a calf injury sustained against Norwich on the opening day of the season.

Adrian is currently guarding Liverpool’s goal in Alisson’s absence.

The Echo believe that it’s possible that Alisson is back in action in September. Readers are told:

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has continued to work on his fitness during the international break.

Alisson has been placed on a bespoke training schedule during the international break.

Expected return: September/October 2019.

Moving into midfield, Naby Keita is once again sidelined for the Reds.

Since moving to Liverpool from RB Leipzig, Keita has suffered a spate of injury problems.

His latest problem is a hip injury suffered in the UEFA Super Cup win over Chelsea.

Unfortunately for Keita, he’s still a while away from returning to action, as the Echo note that “Liverpool haven’t put a timescale on his return.”

What about Newcastle’s injury problems?

Newcastle have their own selection problems before the Liverpool game, as Steve Bruce has concerns over eight players.

Matt Ritchie (ankle), Allan Saint-Maximin (thigh), DeAndre Yedlin (groin), Dwight Gayle (calf), Florian Lejeune (knee) and Jack Colback (groin) are all set to miss the trip to Merseyside.

Fabian Schar has also been ill, while Andy Carroll still lacks match fitness.
