Manchester United have confirmed that Alexis Sanchez has broken the club’s records for shirt sales and social media interactions since his January move from Arsenal.
The transfer received more social media interactions than Neymar’s world record transfer from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.
The club’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward also confirmed that the Chilean trebled United’s record for shirt sales.
Speaking at club’s second quarter 2018 earnings report conference call, Woodward revealed the record-breaking statistics behind the Sanchez’s move.
Across the most popular social media platforms, the deal received the more interactions than any other transfer announcement.
Woodward also announced that the 29-year-old’s shirt sales trebled that of the club’s previous record, indicating the player’s commercial value to the club.
Sanchez has also been quick to make an impact on the field also, as he netted in the Red Devils’ 2-0 win over Huddersfield last Saturday.
“Alexis Sanchez has set a new January signing record in terms of shirt sales – three times that previous record.
This trade generated some interesting social media stats.
It was the biggest United post on Instagram with two million likes and comments, the most shared United Facebook post ever, the most retweeted United post ever and #Alexis7 was the number one trending topic on Twitter worldwide.
To put all that into context, the announcement posts generated 75 percent more interaction than the sale of the world’s most expensive player last summer when Neymar moved from Barcelona to PSG.”
Woodward added that the club’s business strong model allowed United to complete some important business last month:
