Heading into the summer transfer window, it was clear Liverpool needed to strengthen their midfield.
The Redsβ main target earlier in the year looked to be Jude Bellingham, but the cost of that transfer proved too much, and Jurgen Kloppβs side started prioritising other targets a few months ago. This allowed Real Madrid to swoop in and snap up Bellingham.
Liverpool have since signed Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton for just Β£35m. The Argentine scored 10 goals in 35 Premier League outings last season and is sure to be a key figure at Anfield:
βItβs a dream come true and I canβt wait,β said Mac Allister on joining Liverpool.
βI wanted to be in [from] the first day of pre-season, so itβs good that everything is done. Iβm looking forward to meeting my team-mates.
βIt was a fantastic year for me – World Cup, what we achieved with Brighton – but now itβs time to think about Liverpool and try to be a better player and a better human being every day.β
Mac Allister told ESPN Argentina via Anfield Edition: βI had to play twice at Anfield and any player you talk to tells you that itβs crazy how people encourage. Within England, theyβre the closest thing to the people of Boca.
βLiverpool are the Boca of England. I really want to start playing there.β
