Alexandre Pato, Chelsea flop
Officially, June 30 is the final day that Alexandre Pato is a Chelsea player.
Today is the final day of his loan contract from Corinthians.
In truth, though, Pato’s Chelsea career never really got started, and he’ll forever be remembered as a flop within the wider context of a terrible campaign at Stamford Bridge.
So what’s next for Pato
Some sections of the English press verge on insulting the intelligence of football fans, by claiming in the past few days that Pato could stay at Chelsea. Indeed, a four year contract was rumoured.
However that’s a pure pipe dream. It’s never going to happen.
Instead, Brazilian news outlet UOL Esporte are reporting on the confusion surrounding Pato’s return to South America.
He’s owned by Corinthians, however it seems patently clear that the player doesn’t want to return to the club.
Pato joined Chelsea after a loan period with Sao Paulo, and UOL Esporte suggest that the striker could return to the club.
It’s likely his future will be resolved in the next three or four days.
