Derby County 1 – Fulham 2
Will Fulham be a Premier League side next season?
After round 35 of the Championship campaign, Fulham are fourth in the second tier.
The Cottagers still have an automatic promotion spot in sight as they are five points behind second-placed Cardiff City.
It feels certain that Fulham will be in the Championship playoffs if they fail to land a two-two spot.
Last weekend the Cottagers won 2-1 at promotion rivals Derby County.
Newcastle loanee Aleksandar Mitrovic scored his third goal in three games against the Rams.
Ryan Sessegnon was also on target for Fulham. The 17-year-old has 10 goals in the Championship this season.
Tom Huddlestone bagged a consolation for Derby.
Aleksandar Mitrovic: ‘Fulham better than Newcastle’
After the Derby game, Aleksandar Mitrovic made some interesting comments comparing Fulham to Newcastle.
Newcastle won promotion to the Premier League last season as they came first in the second division.
Yet, according to Mitrovic, even last season Fulham were better than the Magpies:
This season, this (Fulham) team, we always try to score more goals than the opponent.
Newcastle was more tactical, we didn’t play so much attacking football as we play now.
Obviously, it worked because Newcastle were promoted last season, and I hope we are promoted again with Fulham.
This is the reason I came here – the style, the players, always attacking, always trying to score one more than your opponents, always with a lot of possession.
Last season I really followed Fulham and they were the best team to watch in the Championship – we are continuing like this.
I really enjoy it and I want to help my team-mates get promoted this season.
We know what to do, we know how to play, we know where we want to be.
We know we have 11 games and we will do everything we can, we want to be there (in the Premier League) come the last game.
