Man City 4 – Tottenham 1
It was another fabulous weekend for Man City in the Premier League.
Many thought that Tottenham could be just the second side to take points off of Man City this season.
Indeed, only Everton have managed to hold the Sky Blues to a draw this campaign.
But, like pretty much everyone else before them, Tottenham were swatted aside by Pep Guardiola’s men in an emphatic performance.
Ilkay Gundogan opened, Kevin De Bruyne doubled the lead, while Raheem Sterling scored a brace.
Alan Shearer on Dele Alli
Will Tottenham make the top four this season?
Spurs are in danger of missing out on a Champions League spot as they are seventh in the league at present.
Despite some brilliant performances in the UCL this season against Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid, domestically Spurs have slipped.
And, for Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer, Dele Alli’s decline has been noticeable.
Shearer, writing for the Sun on Monday, has accused Alli of losing focus:
(Dele Alli) seems to be now resting on the laurels of that praise and the exposure that came with his good form. It is very easy when you are a young player to get carried away with all the adulation.
What I see is another young English player falling short of the hype. On Saturday at the Etihad, when he really needed to step up, he let his team down and should have been sent off.
(Alli) completely lost his head and his already suspect temperament came to the fore again.
The spite with which he crunched his studs into Kevin De Bruyne’s ankle in a reckless and dangerous challenge deserved a dismissal.
