Ajax vs Juventus prediction: Ajax 1-1 Juventus

Juventus will be favourites for the tie but underdog status could play into Ajax’s hands, as it did in the previous round.

The Old Lady have lost their last two away matches in Europe, while Ajax have failed to win their last two at home.

Ajax will be aiming to reach the semi-final of the Champions League for the first time since 1997.

Ajax vs Juventus: Who will win?

Juventus are narrow 5/4 favourites while an Ajax win is priced at 5/2. The draw can be backed at 12/5.

Juventus are 2/7 to reach the last four while Ajax are 5/2 to qualify.

Ajax have failed to keep a clean sheet in four of their last five Champions League matches. Both teams to score is 3/4.

Dusan Tadic has scored nine goals in his last 10 matches for club and country. Tadic is 13/2 to open the scoring and 11/5 to score anytime.

No player has scored more Champions League hat-tricks than Cristiano Ronaldo (8), so it’s worth pointing out that the Portuguese is 18/1 to score three or more on Wednesday night.

Ajax vs Juventus Champions League quarter-final preview

Ajax host Juventus at the Johan Cruijff ArenA on Wednesday night for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie.

Juventus extended their lead at the top of Serie A to 20 points on Saturday, coming from behind to beat AC Milan 2-1 at home. Paulo Dybala equalised from the penalty spot before substitute Moise Kean netted a late winner.

Juventus progressed to the last eight in dramatic fashion, beating Atletico Madrid 3-2 on aggregate in the last 16. Juventus lost the first leg 2-0 in Spain but Cristiano Ronaldo’s hat-trick in the second leg sealed qualification.

Ajax leapfrogged PSV to move to the top of the Eredivisie on Saturday. Donny van de Beek, Freek Heerkens, Joel Veltman and Hakim Ziyech all scored in a 4-1 away win at Willem II. Ajax have now scored exactly 100 goals in the league this season.

Ajax stunned the footballing world by eliminating champions Real Madrid in the previous round. The Dutch side won 4-1 at the Bernabeu in the second leg to progress 5-3 on aggregate. Ziyech, David Neres, Dusan Tadic and Lasse Schone all netted in Madrid.

Dusan Tadic is the joint-third top scorer in the competition this season with six goals. Paulo Dybala is Juve’s leading scorer in Europe with five.

Juventus and Ajax have met on 12 previous occasions in UEFA competition. Juventus are unbeaten in their last ten games against Ajax, winning six of those.

The second leg will take place on 16 April at Juventus Stadium. The winner of the tie will meet one of Manchester City or Tottenham Hotspur in the semi-final.

Ajax team news vs Juventus

Noussair Mazraoui is ruled out for Ajax due to an accumulation of bookings in the competition. 21-year-old Rasmus Kristensen will likely get the nod at right-back.

Other than that, Erik ten Hag is expected to name the same eleven that won at the Bernabeu.

Hakim Ziyech, Daley Blind, Matthijs de Ligt and Nicolas Tagliafico are all one booking away from a suspension.

Juventus team news vs Ajax

Cristiano Ronaldo has missed Juve’s last four matches with a thigh injury but is expected to return to the match day squad.

The Portuguese superstar, the all-time greatest goal scorer in the Champions League, trained on Tuesday, so looks very likely to be involved.

Paulo Dybala provides an excellent alternative if Ronaldo is unable to start.

Massimiliano Allegri started Federico Bernardeschi over Dybala against Atletico Madrid and could do so again on Wednesday.

Emre Can will miss out after being forced off against Milan. Sami Khedira comes back into contention but is unlikely to start ahead of Blaise Matuidi or Rodrigo Bentancur in central midfield.

Alex Sandro should return to left-back after serving a suspension in the previous round.

Matuidi and Bernardeschi are one booking away from missing the return leg.

Moise Kean has scored in each of his last five appearances for club and country but the 19-year-old will have to settle for a place on the bench on Wednesday.

Mario Mandzukic has failed to score in his last 12 appearances but is expected to lead the line.
