Jorginho’s representative has today hinted that the Chelsea star would be interested in joining Juventus, should the opportunity arise.
Jorginho’s Blues stint
Italian international Jorginho made the move to Stamford Bridge from Napoli in the summer of 2018, following Maurizio Sarri from the Stadio San Paolo to London.
However, the 28-year-old, much like his now-former boss, subsequently endured something of an up-and-down debut campaign with Chelsea.
A change of system for the Blues saw Jorginho moved into N’Golo Kante’s position at the base of the the club’s midfield, albeit in a deep-lying regista role, as opposed to Kante’s previous defensive-minded role.
And while the former Napoli standout went on to showcase that he is very much capable of controlling the tempo of proceedings when Chelsea are in possession, his defensive shortcomings were all-too regularly highlighted by the all-action stylings of the Premier League.
The current season, though, has seen Jorginho, to his credit, look much-improved.
Having settled further into the physical requirements of English football, the gifted Italian looks better equipped to run Chelsea’s midfield, with Jorginho himself citing ‘more determination’ on the defensive side of the ball as key to his upturn in form.
The Verona youth product has, as a result, gone on to establish himself as an integral member of Frank Lampard’s squad.
Before the campaign was halted by the COVID-19 outbreak, Jorginho had appeared in all but 3 of Chelsea’s Premier League fixtures, as well as the Blues’ 7 Champions League outings.
‘One of the top clubs in football’
Despite his growing importance at Stamford Bridge, however, reports over the course of the campaign have consistently hinted that Jorginho could be set for a swift return to Serie A.
Juventus have been the outfit most persistently-touted as a potential destination for the midfielder, where he would of course once again reunite with Maurizio Sarri.
Recent weeks, meanwhile, have seen the possibility floated that Juve are keen on a swap deal which would see Miralem Pjanic make the move to London in exchange for Jorginho.
In fact, some outlets have even gone as far as to claim that negotiations over the terms of such a transfer are already underway.
As such, during a scheduled interview on Radio Kiss Kiss earlier today, it came as little surprise when Jorginho’s agent was drawn on the speculation that his client could swap Stamford Bridge for the Allianz Stadium this summer.
And, though Joao Santos was quick to assure that contact is yet to be made on the part of the Bianconeri, significantly, he also conceded that ‘any player’ would jump at the chance to line out in the colours of Juventus:
‘Juventus are one of the top teams in Europe and any player would like to play for them.’
‘I haven’t heard from [sporting director] Paratici, he hasn’t called me. Jorginho has three years left on his contract with Chelsea, he’s doing well in London.’
‘I read about the links with Juve through newspapers and various outlets.’
When pressed further on the possibility of Jorginho reuniting with Maurizio Sarri, Santos added:
‘I repeat: Juventus are one of the top clubs in football.’
