AFTV confirm Claude has been ‘indefinitely’ removed from channel following Heung-min Son remarks

AFTV chief Robbie Lyle has confirmed that the platform have opted to part ways with Claude Callegari, on the back of the comments made towards Tottenham’s Heung-min Son during the North London Derby last weekend.

Arsenal downed

The Gunners made the short trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday, for their latest Premier League outing.

Arsenal headed into proceedings in fine form, on the back of 4 wins and a draw from their previous 5 fixtures.

When all was said and done 3 days ago, however, the capital giants’ impressive stretch was brought to an end at the hands of their fiercest rivals.

After Alexandre Lacazette put Arteta’s men in front early on, Heung-min Son quickly hit back with an equaliser, before Toby Alderweireld’s late header saw Spurs secure all 3 points.

Racist remark

As has been customary since the COVID-19 pandemic forced fans from stadiums across the globe, Arsenal fan TV channel AFTV came together to live stream themselves taking in the action in north London on Sunday evening.

Following their side’s collapse, the tone of the room quickly turned sour, though, with the emotions of derby day having inevitably run high.

And one moment late in the clash subsequently saw the comments of one member of the AFTV crew cross a line.

After goalscorer Heung-min Son made his way off deep into injury-time, Claude Callegari could be heard uttering ‘DVD’s going off’.

‘DVD’ is used as an insult towards Asians in certain areas of England, in reference to the past sale of bootleg DVDs on the streets and in markets.

A quick backlash therefore unsurprisingly followed the comment, with AFTV head Robbie Lyle having first sat down alongside Claude, to give the latter a chance to provide his take on the situation:

‘Removed inefinitely’

Claude’s explanation, however, did not go down at all well amongst viewers.

And, as outlined above, the widespread criticism of AFTV on the back of the North London Derby has since forced the platform into more serious action.

First, Robbie issued an apology across social media:

And this was swiftly followed by confirmation that Claude has been ‘indefinitely removed’ from the AFTV channel, with the Gunners fan set to undertake an education programme to gain a better understanding of the ‘severity of the remark’:
