Adrian injured by fan after Chelsea/Liverpool to assess fitness before Southampton

Southampton vs Liverpool

Liverpool’s second Premier League game of 2019/20 sees them travel to Southampton on Saturday.

Jurgen Klopp’s side got off to a winning start in the PL last weekend, beating Norwich City 4-1 at Anfield.

As for Southampton, they were smashed 3-0 by Burnley on the opening weekend.

Liverpool have, however, had to play a midweek game prior to the Southampton clash, as they faced Chelsea on Wednesday for the 2019 European Super Cup.

Liverpool eventually won the cup after beating Chelsea 5-4 on penalties.

However, the victory may have come at a cost for one of Liverpool’s players.

The Reds already lost Alisson to injury during the Norwich clash.

This meant that Adrian started between the sticks on Wednesday.

Adrian would prove the hero in Turkey, saving Tammy Abraham’s penalty to win the shootout for Liverpool.

Unfortunately, Jurgen Klopp stated in his pre-match press conference on Friday that a supporter kicked Adrian’s ankle in the aftermath of the shootout, and it is now swollen:

“A supporter jumped over something, slipped and kicked his ankle. It is swollen but we have to see.” As quoted by BBC Sport.

Liverpool’s official website have also posted an article, claiming that Adrian’s fitness will need to be checked prior to facing Southampton.

A fan, meanwhile, has posted a video from the Super Cup online, showing the supporter running into the Liverpool players.
