Is the era of Messi and Ronaldo over?
Former AC Milan star Kaka has named two outsiders to beat Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Mohamed Salah to the Ballon d’Or this year.
Lionel Messi had a good year in all competitions, as did Mohamed Salah who single-handedly inspired his side in both the Premier League and Champions League.
Cristiano Ronaldo may have struggled early on in the season but also inspired Real Madrid to Champions League glory.
They are not the only players that have impressed, however, with footballing legend Kaka tipping two other players for the top individual award.
Mbappe or Modric for the Ballon d’Or?
Those two players come in the form of Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric and PSG star Kylian Mbappe.
Both had impressive club campaigns but they came into their own element at the World Cup in Russia.
Modric inspired Croatia to the spot in the final but it was Kylian Mbappe who starred as he took France all the way to World Cup glory.
Now, when asked about the Ballon d’Or, Kaka has seemingly suggested both Modric and Mbappe are in with a shout.
‘Modric has had some impressive results, winning the Champions League and being able to play the World Cup final,’ he explained to Gazetta dello Sport, as per Daily Mail.
‘He is the man who creates the show and commands the game.’
Mbappé is very strong and has a whole career ahead of him. Let the future be yours.’
