Abraham to return for Chelsea vs Spurs but Kante set for three weeks out

Big injury update for Chelsea

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has confirmed that Tammy Abraham will return to the squad to face Tottenham this weekend, but N’Golo Kante will miss out.

Abraham has impressed so far this season.

The Englishman spent last season on loan in the Championship, but has stepped up to the Premier League brilliantly in this campaign, scoring 13 goals.

However, he has also struggled with injuries, with Abraham having reportedly played through the pain barrier against Leicester before the winter break.

N’Golo Kante is another player who has been unfortunate with injuries this season.

The Frenchman was in and out of the Chelsea team early on in the campaign, limiting him to just 22 appearances across all competitions so far.

He also suffered a fresh injury in his last outing against Manchester United, with L’Equipe citing a three-week layoff this week.

Now, Frank Lampard has given an injury update on both players, and there’s some mixed news.

Abraham in, Kante out vs Tottenham

Speaking ahead of the clash with Tottenham, Frank Lampard revealed that Tammy Abraham will be in his squad this weekend.

However, N’Golo Kante will ‘hopefully’ be out for just three weeks.

“Tammy has trained the last two days, he’s probably 70% [fitness] so is in the squad,” Lampard explained, as quoted by the Evening Standard.

“N’Golo is not fit, muscle injury. It’s hopefully three weeks [out].”

Lampard than gave an update on Christian Pulisic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Andreas Christensen.

“[Christian] Pulisic is not fit, [we have] no exact date for a return. It’s a difficult injury,” Lampard continued.

“Ruben [Loftus-Cheek] is in the squad. He’s not fit to start, but he is in the squad. Andreas [Christensen] went to get a mask and has trained with it, so he’s available for selection.”
