A ‘handful’ of Italian clubs have shown interest in Newcastle’s Matty Longstaff – Sky

Matty Longstaff impresses with Newcastle

Matty Longstaff made his senior Newcastle United debut earlier this season vs Leicester in the League Cup.

The Englishman has notched up over 70 appearances for Newcastle’s youth sides.

And Steve Bruce clearly liked what he saw from the youngster, as Longstaff was handed his Premier League debut vs Manchester United back in October of 2019.

Newcastle won the tie, with Matty Longstaff scoring a sensational strike to cap off his impressive league debut.

Longstaff has since featured 10 more times for the Magpies.

Longstaff brothers changing agents

But whilst the Newcastle faithful will no doubt be hoping that Matty and his brother Sean can be key members of their midfield for years to come, the former is out of contract in a few months.

And, as per a report from Sky Sports News on Wednesday, both Longstaff brothers are in the process of changing agents in a bid to sort out their futures.

Steve Bruce has previously spoken out about Matty’s situation, stating that he wants him to stay, whilst also admitting it is a concern:

“We all want him to stay, but players have their prerogative.

“Of course it’s a concern. I just hope that he looks at it as a football decision. Ultimately, when you are 19, it is about how you look after your career, rather than anything else.

“I’m pretty sure there are people in his ear, and distractions. At the end of the day, if you have a successful career, money will find you.

“He’s a 19-year-old who has done very well. Tell me another 19-year-old who’s played in the Premier League this year? There’s not many. I hope he finds a conclusion with the club, I really do. He knows what I think of him.” As quoted by Sky Sports News.

But according to the aforementioned report from SSN, a handful of Italian clubs have shown an interest in Longstaff. However, Sky report that the COVID-19 outbreak could make a potential move more difficult.

Should Matty depart the North-East outfit, he could cost a small development fee of around £350,000, as per Sky.
