Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini today spoke about Tottenham striker Harry Kane in absolutely glowing terms, ahead of tonight’s meeting between the pair.
The return of the Champions League this week and next will see some mouthwatering fixtures played out, with Juventus’ clash with English outfit Tottenham garnering plenty of attention around Europe.
Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs looked extremely impressive on their way to topping a group that featured both Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund late last year, while Juventus, Champions League finalists in 2 of the last 3 seasons, finished runners-up to runaway La Liga leaders Barcelona in their own group.
Of all of the sub-plots to look forward to during tonight’s clash, the battle between Harry Kane and Giorgio Chiellini is certainly one of the most intriguing, with both players widely considered as two of the best in the world in their respective positions.
Kane has spoken of his admiration for Chiellini on numerous occasions in the past, and today labelled the Italian the toughest defender that he has ever faced.
And, speaking in an interview ahead of his own ahead of this evening’s clash, Chiellini was in turn full of compliments for Kane, revealing his opinion that the English hitman should now be considered as being on the same level as the world’s best players:
‘Kane is now among the elite players in the world. Over the last years, with the goals he has scored, he has been on the level of the best.’
‘Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar — Kane has been on that level. He is one of those players that is irreplaceable – and I am sure that Tottenham will be doing all they can to make sure he stays.’
‘It is now a game where you cannot even guess at valuations anymore. There are maybe four or five teams who will pay whatever they need to pay to get the player.’
