Arsene Wenger has made it clear he thinks Calum Chambers is improving at the club and is someone who has the chance to improve Arsenal’s side when he plays.
After starting the previous two league games, Chambers has managed to show his credentials and has his best chance of establishing himself as a first team player for the Gunners after being sent out on loan and having to break into the side.
Wenger is certainly willing to give youth the chance if he thinks the players are good enough, and at 22-years-old, Chambers is now ready to step things up a gear.
Standard Sport report Wenger said:“He’s done well – he’s more mature.
“[Last year at Middlesbrough] he gained the belief that you have the level to play in the Premier League, that you can do it and you get that confidence from your manager for a long period.
“That gives you confidence and from that confidence you can express your qualities. For Calum Chambers, those qualities are immense.”
One player who hasn’t really impressed for the Gunners this season has been Alexis Sanchez, who of course looks on his way out of the club, and it could well be the case that Alexis spends the rest of the season as an outcast in the dressing room – something that has been hinted at with the lack of celebration from some of his teammates when he has scored – and also the fact that Alexis has hardly performed to his previous levels this term.
Wenger decided to be stubborn in the summer and refused to sell the player – and that may well come back to haunt him – and Alexis should Manchester City, his preferred club, decide they don’t need or want to land him come the summer, even if he is on a free.
