5 Chelsea players who will be looking to impress Thomas Tuchel against Aston Villa

5 Chelsea players who will be looking to impress Thomas Tuchel against Aston Villa

Chelsea vs Aston Villa

Chelsea are set to face off with Aston Villa in a 3rd round League Cup clash on Wednesday evening.

The Blues have not won any domestic silverware under Thomas Tuchel, but this competition should represent a great chance to do so.

And whilst Villa may prove a tough nut to crack, Chelsea will no doubt take solace in the fact they beat Dean Smith’s side 3-0 earlier in the season.

However, in Villa’s defence, they were without key duo Emiliano Martinez and Emi Buendia for that game.

5 players who will be looking to impress Tuchel

Though Chelsea are no doubt keen to go as far as possible in the League Cup, Wednesday’s game will likely be used to rest some of Chelsea’s big names for more important clashes, like the Manchester City PL tie this Saturday.

And, with Chelsea having such a big squad, they should be able to rotate without too much of a drop in quality.

The players who come in, though, will likely be very keen to impress Tuchel in order to gain more regular minutes going forward.

Here are five players who should be looking to do so.

Ben Chilwell

The first and most obvious player who should be looking to impress Tuchel vs Villa is Ben Chilwell.

The left-back was a key figure at the back end of last season and played a key role in the Londoners’ Champions League success.

However, he has fallen heavily out of favour this term and has so far notched just seven minutes of action, with Marcos Alonso instead becoming the no.1 left-wing-back at Chelsea.

Timo Werner

Following the signing of Romelu Lukaku, it was expected that at least one Chelsea attacker would see his game time dramatically reduced in order to accommodate the Belgian.

And, so far, that player has been Timo Werner. The German started on the opening weekend of the PL campaign but has since featured for just 29 minutes across four games.

He did come off the bench vs Tottenham at the weekend but missed a big chance, something he is no doubt hoping to put right vs Villa.

Callum Hudson-Odoi

Callum Hudson-Odoi is very much a fringe star at Chelsea currently.

At right-wing-back he is behind Reece James and Cesar Azpilicueta. Whilst further forward Kai Havertz, Mason Mount, Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech are all usually favoured over him.

As a result, CHO will no doubt be desperate to put on a stellar showing if given the chance vs Villa.

Kepa Arrizabalaga

Kepa Arrizabalaga would fill in for the injured Edouard Mendy vs Tottenham over the weekend and kept a clean sheet.

And, with the African expected to be sidelined vs Villa, Kepa should be keen to put on another solid showing to boost his chances of usurping Mendy as Chelsea’s no.1.

Saul Niguez

Saul Niguez had a nightmare debut for Chelsea, being hooked after 45 minutes vs Aston Villa.

As a result, the Spaniard should be eager to make amends this week vs Villa after being left on the bench vs Tottenham on Sunday.
