Who will win the 2018 Ballon d’Or?
As the Champions League approaches the semifinal stage, and with the 2018 World Cup a little over two months from kicking off, attention has shifted onto who will win the 2018 Ballon d’Or.
The reigning Ballon d’Or holder is Real Madrid and Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo won the 2017 award. It was the fifth time he received the prize, which is the same as Barcelona’s Leo Messi.
For the record, Ronaldo and Messi have won the Ballon d’Or between them every year since 2008.
Mohamed Salah’s odds crash
But could Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah break that cycle this year?
Liverpool booked their spot in the Champions League semifinals this week after a stunning 5-1 aggregate win over Man City.
Salah scored Liverpool’s leveller at City on Tuesday night, after the Egyptian broke the deadlock in the first leg at Anfield.
Signed for 34 million pounds last summer from Roma, Salah has now been involved in 50 goals (39 goals, 11 assists) for Liverpool this season in all competitions.
Salah will also be at the World Cup this summer with Egypt.
The bookies have reacted to another incredible week for Salah by slashing his 2018 Ballon d’Or odds.

Cristiano Ronaldo the favourite
Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo is the favourite to win the 2018 Ballon d’Or.
While Cristiano and Real had a difficult first half of the season, they’ve burst into life in since the turn of the year.
Cristiano Ronaldo has scored an amazing 40 goals in 37 games this season, while he’s the Champions League top scorer.

What about Leo Messi?
Leo Messi is second in the 2018 Ballon d’Or race, after Barcelona were dumped out the Champions League by Roma in the quarterfinals.
Messi, who has scored 39 goals in 47 games, is still on course to win another La Liga title this season.
And could Messi lead Argentina to victory at the 2018 World Cup in Russia?
If he does that, Messi would surely be the standout nominee for the Ballon d’Or.
