Who will win the 2018 Ballon d’Or?
The morning after Liverpool beat Roma 5-2 in the Champions League semifinals, many are wondering who will win the 2018 Ballon d’Or.
The reigning Ballon d’Or holder is Real Madrid and Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo won the 2017 award. It was the fifth time he received the prize, which is the same as Barcelona’s Leo Messi.
For the record, Ronaldo and Messi have won the Ballon d’Or between them every year since 2008.
But could that change this year? Could Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah claim the prize instead?
After scoring twice against Roma, Salah has moved onto 43 goals in 47 matches this season.
By comparison, Ronaldo has 42 goals in 39 games for Real Madrid, while Leo Messi has 40 goals in 50 matches for Barcelona.

Liverpool’s Salah is the second favourite to win the 2018 Ballon d’Or.
It’s worth noting that Salah was key to Egypt reaching the World Cup.

Ladbrokes make Mo Salah favourite
For Ladbrokes, Salah is the joint favourite to win the 2018 Ballon d’Or.
The bookies have slashed odds to 11/8 on Salah being the first player other than Leo Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo to claim the gong since 2007.
That means he’s now as likely as Ronaldo and ahead of Messi (7/2) in the betting for the award, while Liverpool are currently 6/4 FAVOURITES to win the Champions League.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Salah has averaged almost a goal-per-game in all competitions this season and given Liverpool’s current position in Europe, it’s easy to see why he’s priced so short to win this year’s Ballon d’Or.”
