Can Portland Timbers continue to climb up the Western Conference standings?
Last weekend, Giovanni Savarese’s side were beaten for the first time since 28 May, going down 3-1 against Toronto at BMO Field.
Before this, Portland were unbeaten in nine matches, winning four of them, reigniting their play-off aspirations.
So, the side who were a penalty shootout away from winning MLS Cup in December are now ninth in the west, below the post-season spots on goal difference.
Sporting Kansas City meantime finished as best in the west in both 2018 and 2020, but are currently rock bottom of the conference.
Last weekend, despite leading 2-0 and then 3-1, SKC were beaten 4-3 by Austin, conceding four minutes into injury time at Q2 Stadium.
The Wizards have now scored 3+ in back-to-back first halfs for the first time, beating LA Galaxy 4-2 a week earlier.
Nevertheless, Peter Vermes’ men remain at the foot of the west, ten points below the dotted-line.
