Match preview

Two of the Western Conference's bottom three meet in Northern California with both searching for some momentum after midweek wins.

Of the two, it's far more surprising to see Sporting Kansas City this far down the table, given that they were the best in the west in 2018 and 2020.

However, things aren't going to plan for SKC just now, emphasised by the fact they were hammered 7-2 at Providence Park last weekend.

That drubbing at the hands of Portland Timbers is just the third time SKC have conceded seven in a game, last doing so three years ago.

But then, on Wednesday night, the Wizards won for the first time since 26 March, beating Colorado Rapids 2-1 at Children's Mercy Park.

Dániel Sallói scoring a brace, but the game's highlight came in stoppage time when a mass-brawl resulted in four red cards.

Both clubs ended the game with nine-men ,with Andreu Fontàs and Sallói the players in sporting blue and dark indigo dismissed.

The Hungarian becoming the fifth player to score twice and be sent off in an MLS game, after Ola Kamara, Obafemi Martins, Taylor Twellman and Ted Chronopoulos.

So now, can Sporting Kansas City secure back-to-back wins for the first time since October?

San Jose Earthquakes meanwhile currently sit one place and one point above their visitors from the midwest.

The Goonies have been the great entertainers so far in 2022 with their 14 games in league and cup featuring a whopping 59 goals.

This theme continued in midweek as Alex Covelo's side beat Portland 3-2 at PayPal Park.

Jackson Yueill on target before Jamiro Monteiro's brace, the second of which came ten minutes from the end, secured a vital win.

This means the Quakes are now unbeaten in three games, having defeated Colorado 1-0 before a thrilling 3-3 draw in Vancouver last weekend.

With nine of their last ten matches having produced three goals or more, expect goals when San Jose are involved.
