Given their relative geographical proximity, these two have been fierce rivals since first meeting in July 2017.

Atlanta United dominated the early clashes, unbeaten in nine, winning seven, but the tables have firmly turned in the last couple of years.

The power-shift in Orlando City’s favour was officially completed last Wednesday with the Lions lifting their first piece of major silverware, beating Sacramento Republic in the U.S. Open Cup Final.

Despite this, Óscar Pareja’s team still have plenty of work to do if they’re rubber stamp their post-season ticket.

On Saturday, Orlando were hammered 5-1 by run-away league-leaders Philadelphia Union at Subaru Park.

This leaves the Lions fifth in the Eastern Conference, although they’ve played two games less than some of those around them.

Atlanta United meantime are languishing down in tenth, still with a slim chance of gatecrashing the top seven.

At the weekend, Gonzalo Pineda’s side beat Toronto FC 4-2 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Juan Sánchez Purata with a hat-trick of headers in Georgia, the first MLS player to achieve this since records began, while Thiago Almada also nodded home.

Thus, Atlanta’s last seven goals have all come from headers, the longest-ever streak in Major League Soccer history.

More importantly, the Five Stripes have only won six of their last 26 matches, with the most recent road victory coming on 3 April.

All in all, a home win seems likely at Exploria Stadium.
