Will New York City FC claim their first MLS victory of 2022?

So far, the Pigeons have made an underwhelming start to their title defence, amassing just one point from two matches.

First, they were beaten 1-0 by LA Galaxy, conceding in stoppage time, before last weekend's goalless draw with Vancouver Whitecaps at BC Place.

So, after two long trips west, Ronny Deila and his team will be glad to be back in the Bronx, looking for their first goal and first win of the season.

Similarly, Club de Foot Montréal are yet to get off the mark, losing both of their matches to date.

A 2-0 defeat in Florida to Orlando City was followed by last Saturday's 2-1 reverse against Philadelphia Union at home.

Lassi Lappalainen fired his team ahead at Stade Olympique but, despite playing against ten-men for half an hour, they were beaten 2-1.

In fairness, the respective slow starts of both can be explained by the fact both are otherwise engaged by the CONCACAF Champions League.

On Tuesday night, NYCFC welcomed Comunicaciones to East Hartford their quarter-finals first leg and enjoyed a thumping 3-1 victory.

Valentín Castellanos, Maxi Moralez and Santiago Rodríguez all scoring, thereby giving them a healthy lead to take to Guatemala next week.

CF Montréal meanwhile faced the daunting task of taking on Cruz Azul at the Azteca on Wednesday night.

Wilfried Nancy's side were beaten 1-0 in Mexico City but are very much still in the tie ahead of the second leg at The Big O.
