Match preview

This'll be the 18th stage of El Tráfico and, given that this rivalry averages 3.8 goals per game, more Friday night excitement should be in store.

These two clubs have already locked horns twice this season, both times in Carson and both times going the way of the Galaxy.

First, back in April, LA Galaxy battled to a 2-1 victory in MLS, but only after Latif Blessing had seen his 98th minute equaliser disallowed by VAR.

The following month, Javier Hernández, Kévin Cabral and Dejan Joveljić were all on target in a 3-1 victory, this time in the U.S. Open Cup.

Despite this, it's all about LAFC in Major League Soccer right now, given that they are top of the overall standings, two points clear of their nearest challengers.

Although, Steve Cherundolo's side were actually beaten for just the fourth time in 2022 last weekend, conceding in the final minute in Vancouver.

Nevertheless, the mood will be improved significantly by the fact the MLS transfer window officially opened on Thursday 7 July.

This means Giorgio Chiellini and Gareth Bale, who've won 38 major trophies between them, could both make their LAFC debuts in this debut.

Fulled by all the excitement surrounding these two acquisitions, will the Black and Gold get back to winning ways, both generally and in this derby?

LA Galaxy though moved up to fourth in the Western Conference thanks to a statement victory on Monday night.

Goals from Chicharito and Joveljić, followed by Rayan Raveloson's quick-fire brace, saw them hammer then top of the east Club de Foot Montréal 4-0.

Greg Vanney's team have only won three of their last nine in the league, also crashing out the cup to Sacramento Republic in this period.

Nevertheless, the Galaxy remain well-placed to make their post-season return later this year, hoping to complete a hat-trick of victories over their rivals in 2022.

Will the majority inside Banc of California Stadium be celebrating a victory for LAFC?
