Match preview

Back in Fort Lauderdale, will Inter Miami get back to winning ways?

Last weekend, Phil Neville's side were beaten 1-0 by Charlotte FC at Bank of America Stadium, having lost 2-0 in New England seven days earlier.

But, before this, the Herons had shown signs of life, winning three games on the bounce, two of which were in front of their own fans.

Nevertheless, only goal difference is keeping Inter Miami from being at the foot of the Eastern Conference, needing to improve on that position.

D.C. United are only two points and three places better off.

The capital club sacked Head Coach Hernán Losada in mid-April and have subsequently won two of three games, both wins coming at Audi Field.

This includes last weekend's 2-0 victory over Houston Dynamo, in which new signing Taxiarchis Fountas bagged a quick-fire brace.

The Greek international is the fourth player in MLS to score twice in each of his first two MLS home starts.

The others are Lassi Lappalainen (Montréal in 2019), Carlos Ruiz (LA Galaxy in 2002) and Mamadou Diallo (Tampa Bay Mutiny in 2000).

Fountas' other two D.C. goals came in a 3-2 victory over New England, with these points having seen Chad Ashton's side climb up to tenth.

Both clubs were in U.S. Open Cup action on Tuesday with D.C. United hosting New York Red Bulls.

The Black-and-Red made wholesale changes for this tie and were punished, swatted aside 3-0 against their Atlantic Cup rivals.

Meanwhile, Inter Miami were also at home, taking on South Georgia Tormenta FC from USL League One.

Ariel Lassiter bagged a brace, with Robbie Robinson netting in-between, as the Herons got through 3-1.
