Vicente Del Bosque has recalled Spain’s record-leading goalscorer David Villa following the Barcelona striker’s recovery from a long-term absence due to a broken leg. Villa should receive some minutes on the pitch against the Saudis, however his lack of match practice and fitness could well see Fernando Torres start in the attack with the likes of Pedro and Andres Iniesta in support.
At the back Carles Puyol (fractured cheekbone) is out for La Roja, so Gerard Pique maybe partnered with Sergio Ramos at the heart of the defence in front of their captain Iker Casillas.
As for the Saudis, who lost their last international match 4-2 in Australia, a amtch against the number one team in the world is likely an exercise in trying to keep the score down to a minimum.
The last match between the nations was a friendly in 2010 in which Spain came out 3-2 winners over Saudi Arabia. David Villa, Fernando Llorente, and Xabi Alonso bagged the goals, however coach Frank Rijkaard has a squad who have won just once in their last seven outings and so such encounter looks unlikely to be repeated.
The Saudis star man is playmaker Yasser Al-Qahtani, who has scored an impressive 44 international goals in 100 appearances.
