A potentially pivotal game in the race for Champions League places.

When these two last met in East London back in July, Andriy Yarmolenko’s late curler saw West Ham win 3-2 and that was pivotal in them staying in the Premier League.

It’s safe to say a lot has changed since then.

Nowadays, West Ham are challenging for Champions League football although those ambitions suffered a setback last Saturday.

The Hammers found themselves 2-0 down at St James’ Park and were a man down after Craig Dawson had been sent off in the same move that Issa Diop scored an own goal.

Shortly after, Łukasz Fabiański’s calamitous error saw Newcastle double their lead.

However, the ten-men fought back and were level with Diop scoring and then Jesse Lingard converting a penalty.

But, the hosts went straight up the other end as West Ham left Tyneside having lost 3-2.

Nevertheless, the only clubs who’ve beaten David Moyes’ side this season are the six ‘Super League’ teams and Newcastle.

Chelsea meanwhile knocked West Ham out of the top four on Tuesday but in far from spectacular fashion.

The Blues were held to a goalless draw by Brighton & Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.

Nevertheless, this means Chelsea are fourth, above West Ham on goal difference, with Liverpool and Tottenham two points back.

While they’re aiming to be in next season’s Champions League, Thomas Tuchel’s side could also win two trophies this season.

A week ago, Hakim Ziyech scored the only goal as they beat Manchester City at Wembley in the FA Cup semi-finals; they’ll face Leicester in the final next month.

Sooner than that, this Tuesday in fact, Chelsea travel to Estadio Alfredo Di Stéfano to take on Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final first leg.

Before then, they need to hold onto a top four place.

Who will win this huge game at the London Stadium?

Prediction: West Ham United 1-2 Chelsea

West Ham United have amassed 31 points at home this season, the second most of any Premier League club.

They’re now looking for a tenth Premier League home win in a season for the first time since 2001/02.

Jesse Lingard can become just the second West Ham player to score in six consecutive Premier League appearances; Diafra Sakho the other to do so.
