Can West Bromwich Albion make a very late charge towards safety?

Last weekend, against all odds, the Baggies came from a goal down to beat ten-man Chelsea 5-2 at Stamford Bridge.

Matheus Pereira and Callum Robinson both bagging braces with Mbaye Diagne also getting in on the act.

Those five goals were as many as they’d scored in their previous ten Premier League matches combined.

Also, all five of Robinson’s Premier League goals, for West Brom or Sheffield United, have come against Chelsea.

That’s just West Brom’s fourth win all season long and only their third since Sam Allardyce’s appointment in late December.

Thus, they’re still 19th, eight points from safety so need to win again.

Southampton meanwhile eased any lingering relegation fears of their own last weekend.

The Saints came from 2-0 down to beat Burnley 3-2 at St Mary’s; Stuart Armstrong, Danny Ings and Nathan Redmond the scorers.

Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side have only won two of their 13 Premier League matches since 4 January but are 13th, ten points from danger.

Also, their next game is an FA Cup semi-final against Leicester on Sunday so they’ll be desperate to build confidence ahead of that.

Will West Brom though secure back to back top-flight wins for the first time since May 2018?

Prediction: West Bromwich Albion 2-1 Southampton

All four of West Brom’s league wins this season have come on Saturdays.

Southampton are looking to win three consecutive wins at the Hawthorns.
