USA vs Mexico live streaming: Preview
USA and Mexico lock horns in the CONCACAF Nations League final at the Empower Field at Mile High in Denver on Monday.
Gregg Berhalter’s USA, who was playing their first official competitive match since November 2019, defeated Honduras 1-0 in the semi-finals on Friday. Theoson Siebatcheu’s diving header on 89 minutes, helped his side to reach the final.
The USA handed official debuts to defender Mark McKenzie of Genk, Borussia Dortmund’s Giovanni Reyna and Antonee Robinson of Fulham. Both second half substitutes Brenden Aaronson, who plies his trade with RB Salzburg, and Jordan Siebatcheu of Rennes, also won their first caps for the national team.
Captain Zack Stefen of Manchester City will be in goal, and Barcelona’s Sergino Dest will continue at full-back. Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie is expected form part of the midfield, with forward Jordan Morris of Seattle Sounders, who has scored four times in the tournament, leading the line.
Mexico, managed by Gerardo Martino, defeated Costa Rica 5-4 on penalties in the semi-finals to progress to Sunday’s final.
The Tricolor, who are set to compete in their 71st meeting against the USA, beat their opponents back in the 2019 Gold Cup, and will fancy their chances once again.
Experienced shot-stopper Guillermo Ochoa will start between the sticks, and Real Betis pair Diego Lainez and national team captain Andres Guardado will form part of the midfield. Napoli forward Hirving Lozano is fine form having netted twice in the friendly win over Iceland on May 30, and provide most of Mexico’s attacking threat.
Prediction: USA 0 – 1 Mexico
Mexico have defeated the USA in their past two encounters, scoring four goals without the home side netting at all in those games. The Tricolor could make it three wins in a row against Berhalter’s men should they win.
