With a decisive game to come, Ukraine will be looking for a confidence boosting friendly victory in Odessa.

As it stands, Ukraine are second in their World Cup qualifying group on nine points.

Amazingly, the Blue and Yellow have drawn six of their seven qualification matches, finally winning 2-1 in Helsinki last month.

So, they’re currently one point above Finland and two clear of Bosnia & Herzegovina and, interestingly, these two meet in Zenica on Saturday.

Thus, the picture will be much clearer by the time Oleksandr Petrakov’s side travel to Bosnia on matchday ten on Tuesday.

But, what is known is that Ukraine must cling on to second place to get into the play-offs or they will not be in Qatar in 12 months time.

Under Andriy Shevchenko, they reached the quarter-finals of Euro 2020 but are now dreaming of a first World Cup place since 2006.

Bulgaria’s last tournament appearance came at Euro 2004 and they last played at a World Cup in 1998.

Neither of these facts are likely to change soon though as the Lions are out of contention for a place in Qatar.

Yasen Petrov’s side endured a mixed pair of result in October, losing 2-1 to minnows Lithuania but then beating Northern Ireland 3-1 in Sofia.

Before that, back in September, they held newly-crowned European champions Italy to a 1-1 draw at Stadio Artemio Franchi.

So, in their final group game against Switzerland in Luzern on Monday, they’ll be looking to hold onto third even if failing to do so is of little consequence.

In all, Bulgaria have only won three of their last 25 competitive games but, on the flip side, they’ve won two of their last three.

Even so, Ukraine should win this friendly at Chornomorets Stadium.
