An all South Coast clash between two sides who’ve found wins hard to come by of late.
Last weekend, Southampton ended a nine match winless run by beating bottom of the table Sheffield United 2-0 at Bramall Lane.
James Ward-Prowse scoring a penalty before Ché Adams’ rocket sealed the victory against his former club.
Then, on Wednesday evening, Ralph Hasenhüttl’s side travelled to run away league leaders Manchester City.
The Saints put in a good display but were, in the end, handsomely beaten 5-2; Ward-Prowse and Adams also the scorers in that one.
This leaves Southampton 14th, seven points clear of the relegation zone.
Just a couple more wins will ensure they remain in the Premier League for a tenth straight season so will they get one of those here?
Brighton & Hove Albion meanwhile are a lot less certain of their Premier League status.
The Seagulls suffered a third straight defeat last weekend, going down 2-1 at home to Leicester City.
Adam Lallana’s first goal for the club in vain.
Before this run, Graham Potter’s side were unbeaten in six, amassing 12 points which pushed them clear of the relegation zone.
Now, they’re 17th, only above Fulham on goal difference.
Who will win this derby of sorts at St Mary’s?
Prediction: Southampton 1-1 Brighton & Hove Albion
James Ward-Prowse has scored eight goals in all competitions this season, his best return in a single campaign.
Southampton are unbeaten in eight meetings with Brighton, dating back to a 3-0 defeat at the Amex in the Championship in 2012.
