Which side, from outside the Premier League, will continue their cup adventure?

Both have won three ties to get here with Queens Park Rangers first beating Leyton Orient on penalties and then Oxford United 2-0.

Then, in the third round, Charlie Austin’s brace helped them hold Premier League high-fliers Everton to a 2-2 draw at home.

In the subsequent penalty shootout, all eight Rangers players converted from 12 yards as QPR got through to round four.

This is the first time they’ve got to this stage since 2008, losing to Manchester United, last getting further in 1988/89.

Sunderland meanwhile are the only club from the third-tier or below left in this season’s competition.

The Blacks Cats overcame Port Vale and Blackpool in the early rounds before beating Wigan Athletic 2-0 in round three.

Nathan Broadhead and then Luke O’Nien the scorers at the DW Stadium.

Sunderland reached the League Cup Final in 1985 and, more recently, 2014 but this is their joint-best run since the latter.

This is Sunderland’s fourth successive season in League One after missing out in the play-offs in 2019 and last season.

Lee Johnson’s side are currently fourth, two points behind the leaders, after Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat to Charlton Athletic.

QPR meanwhile were also beaten at the weekend, going down 2-1 to Peterborough United at London Road, conceding in stoppage time.

This means Mark Warburton’s side are seventh in the Championship having lost five of their last eight league fixtures.

Back in the Carabao Cup, who will be celebrating a place in the quarter-finals with a victory at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium?

101 Great Goals prediction: Queens Park Rangers 2-1 Sunderland

Sunderland have only won one of their last seven meetings with QPR but that was a League Cup victory at Loftus Road in 2016.
