Qatar’s World Cup 2022 preparations continue.

Since winning their very first AFC Asia Cup on 1 February 2019, the Maroons’ schedule has been jam-packed with fixtures.

First, in the summer of that year, they took part in the Copa América, drawing with Paraguay before loses against Colombia and Argentina.

This summer, they reached the CONCACAF Gold Cup semi-finals, beating Grenada, Honduras and El Salvador.

Their run came to an end in the last four, losing 1-0 to USA in Austin with captain Hassan Al-Haydos chipping a penalty over the crossbar.

Now, Félix Sánchez Bas’ side are mock-taking part in European World Cup qualifying, taking on the side in Group A without a fixture.

They made a very good start in March, beating Luxembourg and Azerbaijan before drawing with Republic of Ireland.

However, last month, Qatar lost 4-0 to Serbia and 3-1 to Portugal before a 1-1 draw at Stade de Luxembourg.

Now, Qatar face another tough test in a rematch with the 2016 European Championship and 2019 Nations League winners.

Portugal easily beat Qatar in Debrecen last month; André Silva , Otávio and Bruno Fernandes all on target.

But, Fernando Santos’ side are mainly focussed on booking their ticket to Qatar 2022 just now.

A Seleção have won four of their five qualifiers so far, only drawing 2-2 with Serbia back in March.

Last month, they beat Ireland 2-1, Cristiano Ronaldo scoring twice after the 89th minute, before a far more comfortable 3-0 victory in Bakı.

Portugal host nearest challengers Serbia on the tenth and final matchday in, what could be, a straight shootout for qualification.

Thus, they need to win their two games before then, at home to Luxembourg on Tuesday and in Dublin in November, to stay top.

Who will win this friendly at Estádio Algarve in Faro/Loulé?

Prediction: Portugal 3-1 Qatar

Portugal have never lost a match at Estádio Algarve, winning eight and drawing the other three.
