Norwich City are back in the Premier League. Again.

Last season, the Canaries were promoted back to the top-flight instantly having been relegated in 2020.

In fact, Norwich have now been promoted or relegated in nine of their last 13 campaigns, but will hoping to avoid a fourth successive season of going up or down.

A lot is the same about the side from Norfolk from two years ago.

Daniel Farke is still the manager and familiar faces Tim Krul, Max Aarons, Grant Hanley and, of course, Teemu Pukki are likely to start this one.

But unlike two years ago, the Yellows have spent a bit of money in the transfer market.

Goalkeeper Angus Gunn, left-back Dimitris Giannoulis, midfielders Pierre Lees-Melou and Billy Gilmour, wingers Milot Rashica and Christos Tzolis and striker Josh Sargent have all arrived.

Rashica and U.S. forward Sargent were both relegated to the 2. Bundesliga with Werder Bremen last season so won’t want to suffer the same fate in England.

It’s going to be tough but will Norwich defeat one of the Premier League’s big guns on the opening day?

As for Liverpool, many would agree that last season was underwhelming by their own lofty standards.

Nevertheless, despite having no senior centre-backs for months on end, they reached the Champions League quarter-finals and finished third in the table.

The latter was achieved thanks to a ten-match unbeaten run at the end of the campaign, in which they collected 26 points.

This season, Jürgen Klopp will be hoping for more consistency at the heart of his backline.

Virgil van Dijk, Joël Matip and Joe Gomez are all fit and raring to go while Ibrahima Konaté has joined from RB Leipzig to bolster their options.

They could have a problem at left-back though; Andy Robertson went off in a pre-season friendly, meaning Kostas Tsimikas will deputise here.

Will the 2020 Premier League champions start this season with a win at Carrow Road?

Prediction: Norwich City 1-3 Liverpool

Norwich and Liverpool have met on the opening day of a season three times.

The Reds won 1-0 in 1976 and 4-1 two seasons ago while it finished as a 3-3 draw at Carrow Road in 1984.

Overall, Liverpool are unbeaten in 14 Premier League meetings with the Canaries, scoring 44 times in these games.
