French football’s traditional curtain raiser, the Trophée des Champions, takes place in Tel Aviv.

Lille have never won this trophy but have only competed in it twice before, losing to Reims in 1955 and, more recently, Marseille a decade ago.

However, the Dogs are here after winning Ligue 1 last season, doing so against all the odds.

On the final day of the season, Lille beat Angers 2-1, Jonathan David and Burak Yılmaz scoring, as they pipped PSG to the title.

Since though, Head Coach Christophe Galtier has left for Nice and been replaced by Jocelyn Gourvennec.

The 49 year old has managed EA Guingamp, over two spells, spending two years at Girondins de Bordeaux in between.

There’s also expected to be much movement in terms of players; Mike Maignan and Boubakary Soumaré have already left for A.C. Milan and Leicester respectively.

So, Lille are unlikely to be as competitive at the top of the table this time around but would love to start this season with silverware.

Paris Saint-Germain’s domination of French football has been optimised by this competition.

Les Parisiens have won eight successive Trophée des Champions, doing so in six different countries, last losing in this competition in 2010.

Also, in the last nine seasons, they’ve won seven Ligue 1 titles as well as six Coupe de Frances and six Coupe de la Ligues.

But, last season, they only won this trophy and the Coupe de France, beating Monaco in the final of the latter.

Most importantly, Mauricio Pochettino’s side were knocked out of the Champions League in the semi-finals by Manchester City.

So, les Rouge et Bleu are expecting more French silverware this year and a better run in Europe.

Gianluigi Donnarumma, Sergio Ramos, Achraf Hakimi and Georginio Wijnaldum could all make their debut in this one.

Will PSG start this season with a victory at Bloomfield Stadium?

Prediction: Lille 1-3 Paris Saint-Germain
