Can Liverpool salvage something from this season?

On Wednesday night, they exited the UEFA Champions League at the quarter-final stage, drawing 0-0 at Anfield.

This saw Real Madrid progress with the damaging having been done in the first leg when the Spanish champions won 3-1 at Estadio Alfredo Di Stéfano.

So now, Liverpool’s sole focus is on qualifying for next season’s Champions League, something that is far from a given.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s stoppage time winner last weekend saw the Reds come from behind to beat Aston Villa 2-1 at Anfield.

This means Jürgen Klopp’s side have won three league games in a row for the first time since the first three matches of the campaign after wins at Wolves and Arsenal.

Despite this, they’re sixth, two points behind Chelsea and three adrift of West Ham.

Thus, Liverpool cannot afford too many more slip ups if they’re to snatch fourth spot.

Leeds United meanwhile will be full of confidence.

In their last game, Stuart Dallas’ brace, the second of which came in the 92nd minute, saw them beat Manchester City 2-1 at the Etihad.

They’re to first newly-promoted club to win at that stadium for 14 years.

This is despite playing for over half the match with ten-men after Liam Cooper’s red card.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side have now won three matches in a row, all 2-1, after victories over Fulham and Sheffield United.

So, Leeds are currently tenth, just seven points behind their visitors.

Not often are the Championship champions and Premier League champions that close together in the table in mid-April.

Liverpool have already won in Liverpool, London, Leicester and Lincoln this season with 70% of their victories coming in cities beginning with L.

They also beat RB Leipzig twice but sadly, for the purpose of this, neither counts as both matches took place in Budapest.

Will Liverpool enjoy another trip to an L city at Elland Road?

Prediction: Leeds United 2-2 Liverpool

Leeds have conceded 52 goals in their 25 Premier League matches against Liverpool, more than against anyone else.

Mohamed Salah is looking to becoming the first Liverpool player to score 20 Premier League goals in three different seasons. He’s currently on 19.
