Haiti vs Saint Vincent and the Grenadines live streaming: Preview
The 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup commences with the First Preliminary Round ties in Fort Lauderdale.
12 nations have already booked their place at this summer’s final tournament so, with Qatar participating as an invitee, just three places remain.
Haiti surprised everybody two years ago when they got all the way to the Gold Cup semi-finals, their best run at the tournament since 1977.
Back then, les Grenadiers topped their group with maximum points, then came from 2-0 down to beat Canada 3-2 in the quarter-finals before eventually losing to Mexico.
Now though, Jean-Jacques Pierre’s side must come through two qualifying rounds to even get to this summer’s tournament.
This is because, way back in late 2019, Haiti finished bottom of their CONCACAF Nations League A group, below Costa Rica and Curaçao, thereby failing to qualify for the Gold Cup.
Nevertheless, they’ll be confident of coming through these play-offs.
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines meanwhile have only ever qualified for one Gold Cup and that was way back in 1995.
They earned a play-off spot by finishing second in their Nations League B group, below Suriname but above Nicaragua and Dominica.
Now, Kendale Mercury’s side are looking to make history.
The other teams in this play-off path are Bermuda and Barbados with the two semi-final winners meeting in the final on 6 July.
Whoever, out of those four, comes through will be in Gold Cup Group C alongside the United States, Canada and Martinique.
Who will be celebrating victory in the first of nine play-off matches to take place at DRV PNK Stadium?
Prediction: Haiti 3-1 Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
Haiti players to watch:
Derrick Etienne Jr. (Columbus Crew SC),
Duckens Nazon (Sint-Truidense).
