One of Europe’s biggest clubs takes on true novices at this level.

Then newly-promoted Granada finished seventh in La Liga last season, thereby qualifying for UEFA competition for the very first time.

They’ve so far won three qualifying round ties, against Teuta Durrës, Locomotive Tbilisi and Malmö, and come through a group that contained PSV Eindhoven, PAOK and Omonia.

Their two knockout phase ties, so far, have followed a similar pattern.

On both occasions, Diego Martínez’s side have won the home leg 2-0 and then sneaked through, losing 2-1 away, but that’s been enough to eliminate Napoli and Molde.

How they’d love that to happen again.

In contrast, the second leg will be Manchester United’s 400th tie in European or world football competitions, winning three European Cups, the Intercontinental Cup and a FIFA Club World Cup.

The Red Devils also won this trophy for the very first time in 2017.

Last season though, Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s side were beaten by Sevilla in the semi-finals, meaning the club legend is still searching for his first silverware as manager.

This year, since dropping out of the Champions League group stages, they’ve hammered Real Sociedad 4-0 and edged out A.C. Milan 2-1 on aggregate.

In the latter, Paul Pogba got the only goal at San Siro.

On Sunday, goals from Marcus Rashford and then Mason Greenwood saw them come from behind to beat Brighton & Hove Albion 2-1 at Old Trafford.

Manchester United remain second, 11 clear of Spurs in fifth.

With a top four place close to being secured, Man United can focus on trying to get a trophy in the cabinet in the shape of the Europa League.

Over in Spain, Granada’s European exploits have seemingly taken a toll on their La Liga season.

They were beaten 3-0 by Villarreal on Saturday so are now ninth having lost five of their last seven.

Will it be the most famous night Nuevo Estadio de Los Cármenes has ever witnessed?
